QR Code Labels
For many large companies and organisations, it is standard practice to affix labels to each appliance or item of equipment which belongs to them. The information on these labels may be numerical or text based, but QR code stickers are becoming increasingly popular. Let’s learn more about QR codes and find out why they are useful for this commercial application. Why do firms need to label their assets? There are several reasons, and in any case, any one or more of the following may apply: To identify the item as belonging to the company. Whether accidentally or intentionally, items may be removed from company premises. This is especially a risk in the case of smaller items like small office appliances, power tools, etc. When your items are labelled, it makes it harder for anyone to claim them as their own.To identify the item within the company. You may have several similar items in your inventory. To quickly and concisely identify each one from the others, they can be assigned a unique number or name which is recorded on an asset sticker. Some asset tags come with serial numbers for just this purpose. To advertise the company. If your hire out equipment to others, custom stickers with your logo and contact details will mean they remember you as a business contact. To provide specific information to users. For example, PAT testing is an effective way of ensuring that equipment is in a safe usable condition. By using PAT test labels, you can reassure colleagues that appliances have been inspected and found to be safe. You can also record the date the next inspection is due. For many of these purposes, a simple serialized asset sticker will suffice. But by making use of QR code labels UK companies can take advantage of the latest developments in electronic information handling, in order to make that small sticker a wealth of information for those who have access to it. While there are small QR code stickers with nothing but the characteristic square pattern showing on the surface, QR code asset labels typically carry a bit more information than that. When you order QR code labels from Label Bar, you can specify any text or numerical information you wish to be displayed. This is the information which will be available even to those without a reader which can interpret the QR code. But the real power of custom QR code stickers lies within the grid pattern which allows a wealth of information to be stored and accessed at the touch of a button. QR codes can send devices to certain websites, to specific audio or visual information, or even to specific files within a database designed for asset management. Thus, all the uses detailed above and more can be fulfilled when users scan the code with their device. The information in the QR code can direct them you your company website, to instructions on using the appliance, or to your PAT testing and maintenance log. Contact us to learn more. Barcode Labels
When they see barcode labels Uk consumers are usually just reminded of the tags which are used to work out the price of your shopping on your weekly trip to the supermarket. But in fact, the way barcodes work mean they can be used for a wide range of other purposes, besides calculating your bill. For the uninitiated, here is a brief description of the way barcode systems work, and some of the additional tasks they can perform. Some people may not be aware that neither the prices of the items in a supermarket, nor the details of the items themselves, are stored within the barcode. The only function of the barcode is to provide a unique number which relates to the product being scanned. It’s like the barcode scanner at the till has a huge book, with a different product which is available in the store appearing on each page. The number on the barcode sticker simply tells the computer which page to look on. When the system ‘looks up’ the record associated with that barcode number, the price is the first piece of information it encounters. This price is added to your bill. But other information can be stored on these pages too. For example, have you ever taken a bottle of wine through a self-service checkout, only to be approached by a staff member who wishes to verify your age? The database ‘page’ for the bottle of wine contained the information that this was a restricted item, and summoned help. In fact, any necessary information can be ‘written’ in these ‘pages’, and it’s the barcode labels on the products which call it up. This means that barcodes can be used in many other less obvious ways, and indeed they are, in shops, offices, warehouses and factories around the world. While most of the barcodes on supermarket products are printed on by the manufacturer or packaging company, at Label Bar we supply various types of barcode labels and stickers which are specifically designed for these ‘behind the scenes’ uses. One of the most common types of industrial product are asset barcode labels. Many large companies and organisations use asset databases to monitor the use and maintenance of their appliances and equipment. Asset labels can often be found attached to the underside of electrical devices, or any other movable item. They often assign a serial number to the object, which is then used in internal processes; for example, when it’s time to have all the printers PAT tested, a facilities manager can check on each device individually that the inspection has taken place. Given that asset labelling is concerned with assigning barcodes to items, the parallel between this and the stock on the shelves of the supermarket is clear. Barcode asset labels make it possible for these serial numbers to be read electronically, thereby speeding up the process and eliminating errors. We produce a wide range of types, including heavy duty barcode labels for industrial equipment or items which are used out-of-doors. Contact us to learn more. Read Full Story -

More people these days are concerned with environmental issues than ever before. It sometimes feels like every new week brings with it some new threat to the natural world posed by industry, agriculture, or some other human activity. The good news is, public awareness of these matters is continually growing, and there are small and easy lifestyle changes each of us can make which together will make a big difference. Recycling is one of the frontline measures in making our lives more environmentally sound. It is something we can all do which has minimal impact on our daily routine once we get used to it. With the proper infrastructure in place, it would likely cost the average person a total of less than a minute a week more to divide their waste into the various recycling categories. When domestic recycling first became a ‘thing’, many of us used to load up our vehicles and drive to a local municipal or supermarket carpark where the special skips were located. Each large steel bin would have it’s own recycling label: ‘Glass’, ‘Plastic Bottles’, ‘Tin Cans’, and so on. We would then have to rummage around in our own trash to divide the items into the appropriate categories. It’s no wonder so many people were resistant to the idea! These days, things are a whole lot easier. Nearly all homes have various containers for rubbish, many of which bear recycling bin stickers so it’s easy to tell them apart. And in most areas, recycling is collected periodically alongside general household waste. Many households are now adopting good recycling practices, and this is good news for all of us as well as the world we live in. To encourage people to recycle even more, public waste bins which divide trash into types are now available. Additionally, some companies and other organisations make their own arrangements by having several bins available. Of course, for these to be effective it is important for employees or the public to be able to easily tell which bin they should use for their refuse. That’s where recycling labels from Label Bar come in. These recycling bin labels are designed to allow observers to quickly and clearly discern how to use the waste facilities. Aside from just stating that this is a recycling bin and encouraging people to use it, our stickers use established images and colour coding to allow users to find the receptacle they need without giving it a second thought. Managers can show their commitment to environmental measures by using our recycle labels to establish facilities in their workplaces. We can even supply these recycle stickers as bundles, so you have everything you need in one places. There are many other possible uses for these stickers. Some householders or communal residences use these recycling labels for bins, to make sure everyone remembers to put their trash in the right place. Conveying information quickly and accurately is a vital part of modern life. If you have a message to get across, grabbing the attention of your audience is the first thing you must do to communicate effectively. You must also get your point across clearly and promptly, otherwise their attention will begin to waver. We see signs and stickers everywhere, from roadsides and buildings to packaging and the products that we buy. Most of these signs and labels are functional and to-the-point, in order to convey their message. Whether you are a manager at a commercial or industrial facility, an organisation member responsible for a premises, or someone who produces goods in your own home, how should you approach the design of signage and labelling? And where can you buy adhesive labels which are suitable for your needs. Sign and Label Design The most successful signs and labels are very simple. They aim to be recognizable at a glance, connecting with the observer on a subconscious level. Think of road signs. You likely don’t remember every single ‘Stop’ or ‘Give Way’ sign you passed on your way into work this morning – in fact, you may not specifically remember any of them. But you drove as they instructed because you understood what they required of you. In the same way, the best labels and posters use simple shapes, symbols and colours to convey their messages. The workplace signs and general adhesive labels available from Label Bar use established colours and symbols to communicate warnings and instructions like ‘Flammable’ or ‘No Smoking‘. If you are designing your own custom labels for your products or workplace, keeping it simple can make people take notice. Using Commercially Available Signs and Labels One way to save yourself the time and expense of creating your own signage and stickers is to buy standard designs from an established supplier. As mentioned, these will usually already conform to established conventions, making them especially useful for warning signs and any other signage which is required by law. But even if you just need informational labels for products or other items, a company like Label Bar can produce as many as you need for less than you might expect. We are specialists in producing signs, notices, and self adhesive stickers and we already have the hardware and software to produce these quickly and efficiently. Coming to us is so much easier than trying to make your own labels. By ordering from us, you can have your product delivered to your door in the form of self adhesive labels which are formulated to stick fast to almost any surface. No more lost labels, and no fiddling around with glue and paper – simply peel, stick, move on. And once your label design is in our system, we can run you off a new batch and deliver them to you whenever you need them. What could be easier? To buy adhesive labels or enquire about our other products, contact Label Bar online or on 01325 525 675. Read Full Story -
Packaging & Shipping Labels
Here at Label Bar, we are industry leaders for supplying labels for the health and safety industry, offering over 10 years of experience in the field. Experts at providing the most extensive variety of labels that you could require, here we will draw our attention to our range of packaging and shipping labels. Packaging and Shipping Labels at Label Bar Here at Label Bar, we offer labels for objects that are fragile and must be handled with care. Similarly, we can offer labels when a package should be facing a particular direction, or guidance as to which way to open a package, and whether or not to use a cutter, hooks or hand trucks. Centre of gravity labels indicate where the shipping package is the heaviest. Other labels include those to show it should be kept dry, not to litter, and whether it uses recycled packaging. The Importance of Packaging and Shipping Labels In order to pack and ship goods in the best way, packaging labels for boxes are one of the most important aspects of shipping. To make sure that the contents get safely and securely from A to B, shipping stickers relay information to those handling the packages that they would not otherwise know. When goods are tucked away in their boxes, the inside cannot be seen. Packaging and shipping labels can help in a variety of ways, whether those handling packages at the start of their journey, those working in transit, or those on the receiving end of the packaging. Not only are they useful for the safety of the contents, but they can also be important for the health and safety of those working with such packages. What Packaging and Shipping Labels Mean Boxes can often be handled in a rough-and-ready way, with time pressure meaning there is an emphasis on efficiency rather than care. However, if a worker sees a sign indicating the package is fragile or should be handled with care, this allows them to have a balance between efficiency and care. Similarly signs that indicate which way up the package should be ensure the contents don’t get strewn everywhere in transit. Labels indicating the centre of gravity help those handling the package to hold it better, in a way that is safe for both the worker and the contents. Likewise, labels that show how to clamp a package, and whether or not to use hand trucks or hooks, mean that the worker will know how to handle the package in the proper way. Finally, labels that state whether or not to use a cutter and which way to open a package are helpful for those receiving the package, making sure not to damage anything at this final stage. Plant Labels
Here at Label Bar, we are industry leaders for supplying labels for the health and safety industry, with clients benefiting from our experience of more than 10 years in the field. Experts at providing the largest variety of labels that you could need, here we will draw our focus to our range of plant labels. What are Plant Labels? A typical plant label will relay two specific bits of information: the common name and the botanical name. The common name is the name that most people will be familiar with in everyday use, such as rose, snapdragon or spider plant. The botanical name is the scientific name, with the first part in Latin and usually depicted in italics on the plant tag. This describes the genus, or group, the plant belongs to and its species. Furthermore, this name also includes the cultivar and classifies the plant also with regards to the colour, leaf and petal shape. For example, the name for the aforementioned plants may be rosoideae, antirrhinum or chlorophytum comosum. The Importance of Plant Name Labels Scientific or botanical plant name labels refer to the ICN (International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants). As so many plants have differing common names depending on the language, this allows for a single name that is accepted and in use across the globe. In English, when we refer to plants, we have no way of describing their animacy, referring to them as ‘it’. This is the say way we speak of objects, not taking into account that they are living things. By at least giving plants their name labels, this at least strengthens our relationship to nature, especially giving younger generations a chance to learn about plants in a world that is often far removed from the natural world, with advances of technology often tempting us away from it. Plant Labels at Label Bar Here at Label Bar, we offer two different styles of printable plant labels from our base in the UK. One that you will most likely see when wandering around botanical gardens is the stick-in-plant labels, which stick inside the plant pot. Secondly, we have loop lock, self-ties, which are often seen when looking to purchase plants, and can also be used as tool and plant hire label. Either option also includes the option to use laser printers or thermal transfer printers, so make sure you select the correct printable plant label to work with your printers. Additionally, we stock Sharpie twin-tip permanent marker pens, which can be used directly on the plant labels. At Label Bar, we are leading suppliers for an extensive range of labels, including health and safety, identification, and testing. We have over 10 years of industry experience, and today we are going to explore our expertise on offer within our range of PAT labels. What is PAT? A PAT is a type of test, which acts as an abbreviation for ‘Portable Appliance Testing’. A PAT label can help with the organisation of equipment that usually undergoes this type of test as part of your company maintenance system, forming a vital part of its health and safety procedures. A visual inspection may be carried out first and foremost, at which point a PAT label will confirm that the testing has been completed. Aside from visual defects, more complex testing may be carried out, and our PAT labels can also account for this more rigorous testing. The point of such examinations of electrical equipment and appliances is to make sure that they are safe to use. A type of management tool, PAT labels offer an effective way to monitor and review the effect of PAT processes, as well as acting as proof, so when required, you may present PAT labels to demonstrate the ongoing testing of equipment is taking place. How often should PAT be carried out? As a general rule, the larger the piece of equipment, the more times a PAT should be carried out. However, the regularity will also vary depending on the environment that the appliances are being used in, and the kind of equipment you are working with. When considering the environment, we can see the difference between the use of power tools in the construction industry compared with using a hairdryer in a hotel room, so logically you can see the difference in important for how regularly these two appliances will require a PAT. Despite there being no legal requirement to carry out PAT tests, the law does stipulate that you make sure that any electrical equipment that has any potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. PAT labels and the testing itself means that you can show your company is completing this duty. Who is able to carry out the tests? As well as having the right PAT labels, it is also necessary for the person carrying out the testing to be competent in the area being tested. They should have the required training, as well as the knowledge and experience to use the correct testing equipment and understand the procedures. Lastly, they must be able to interpret the results of the test and use the PAT stickers to demonstrate the results. What PAT Labels do we stock? We offer a range of different designs for PAT labels, including a choice of colours: green, blue, purple and black. PAT labels can indicate when an appliance has passed or failed a PAT and includes various information, such as the ID, test dates and engineer details. Most of our PAT labels are self adhesive, whilst our tuff tags are a self-tie label for harsher environments. We also stock different items to go with the labels, such as protective label seals and LabelGuard® tags (in blue, red, green and yellow). We also supply Sharpie twin tip permanent marker pens to write on the necessary information for your PAT labels when in use. Contact Us For more information about our range of PAT labels, please get in contact with us via our web contact form, or by emailing us at Sales@LabelBar.co.uk. PAT Test Labels
The PAT testing process doesn’t have to be complicated, but should be carried out methodically if you want your colleagues, management, and any third parties such as HSE inspectors to be able to see clear evidence of your compliance. Proper recording and documentation of PAT testing procedures can be even more complicated than the inspection procedure itself – unless you have the right stationary. With PAT Testing Labels and other stationary readily available from Label Bar, keeping a record of all your PAT Testing activities including inspection results and retest dates becomes a doddle. A crucial item for anyone involved in PAT test scheduling, a PAT Test log book is a single, centralized record of all portable appliance inspection activities for a single site. When all your results are written in a single, dedicated record, any and all information will be at your fingertips if you’re required to produce it. Such a level of organization is sure to impress any officials who encounter it. Sure, it’s possible to use a simple ring-bound note pad or jotter for the same purpose, but we recommend a dedicated record book for the level of professionalism it displays, and for your convenience as there is ample space for each item of information you may need. PAT Testing Labels are the bread-and-butter of your electrical appliance inspection programme. Affixing PAT test labels to devices in your workplace offers instant assurance that electrical safety guidelines have been adhered to, and that the particular item in question has received individual attention to ascertain its suitability. More specific information is available to those checking the PAT testing label more closely: the date the last inspection was conducted, the identity of the tester, and any notes about the results of the test should be recorded here. Just what form this PAT test label takes depends on many factors. By far and away the most common type of PAT test label is the standard self-adhesive sticker containing the above information, which can be attached to any flat surface of an appliance where it can easily be seen by the operator. But at Label Bar, we also produce several other types of PAT Test Labels for different situations. For example, a range of personalization options mean you can have your organization’s PAT test labels designed to suit your specific needs. Want your company name on there? No problem! Full colour logo? You got it! We can also produce runs of PAT testing labels with serial ID numbers for asset identification schemes, or with barcodes for companies who maintain database records of all their appliances. Other options include cable wrap PAT test labels, which can be attached to the power cords of devices with no convenient flat surfaces, and ‘tuff-tag’ versions fir use in especially demanding environments. Whatever applications you may have for PAT testing labels, we will have a product to match – get in touch with our team today, and they will help you find what you are looking for. Read Full Story
